Description
This painting was inspired by a dream, and the original was presented to the former President Obama. It represents the former President, his wife and their daughters. Obama sits at the root of the tree as the foundation of the country during his time. Michelle is holding a basket of rice to represent fertility and growth. One child is gathering Spanish moss to represent health and healing as Spanish moss in the Gullah culture is used to help lower high blood pressure. The other child is sitting in the tree to represent how precious trees are as it provides homes to many animals and humans. Her sitting in the tree also represents understanding our history and heritage.
The Risk of the Roots:
We are with you, we were before you. We’ve come so far and risked so much. We’ve pierced the ground to be strong for you. Our Hands, Hearts, and Souls paved through the depths of the soil to Secure our Foundation. To Survive, we were willing to be the Footstools for you. Now you can Stand on our shoulders to dwell amongst the stars. There will be times when you must stand against the galloping winds. We honor the Legacy above ground. Some of you will become the Root of Strength of the inheritance. Others will Nurture and Grow the Seeds of Knowledge and Life. There will be those who give History a Home to be visited often. Then, there are those who will gather the fruits of Life to Minister all Needs. May the Legacy find us deep within to remember how we rode into the soil against the towered waters to live beside the stars was a risk to make.
